Starting therapy can be nerve-racking when you don't know what to expect

Here are some ideas, tips and tricks, what to expect, and how to get the most out of our first contact together!

  • •Most importantly, YOU, in a place where you feel comfortable sharing and talking. This could be in a room, in your office, or sitting in the grass in your backyard.

•Somewhere free of distractions (as therapy can bring up thoughts, feelings, and emotions that you may not want your boss to know about )

    •Feel free to dress comfortably!

•Pets are always welcome (and strongly encouraged!)

    •Water and/or snacks

•Paper and pen-Somewhere to jot down notes or ideas

•Your journal (or notes from your phone)

•Fidgets or something for your hands to do while we chat ( your therapist will probably be using one, too!)

  • (These are NOT required-just some things to think about)

•List of things you want your therapist to know

•List of things you want to focus on during therapy

    •Questions for your therapist

  • During our first session, we are going to talk about you and what you would like to get out of your time in therapy.

Sessions are held via secure video for 45-55 minutes

Your therapist may ask you questions like:

    •How do you learn best?

•How would you like our time together to be similar/different from therapists in the past?

•What is bringing you to therapy now and what do you want to get out of being in therapy?

Please let Amanda know if there is preferred way to have your first session!
